Word Game - and - Free Rice

About FreeRice

FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty site Poverty.com.
FreeRice has two goals:
Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the sponsors who advertise on this site.
Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your vocabulary can improve your life.
It is a great investment in yourself.
Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you.

How to Play

United Nations World Food Program.

Baggu Bags

LET US EXPLAIN WHY BAGGUS ARE SO GOOD.

We are working to replace our old friends, the paper & plastic bags,

with something that does their job without creating needless waste

or harming the environment.

Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags.
One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags.

Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries.

They are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs)

so they are light (2 oz) and compactible.

They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket.

That way they are always handy when you need them.

BAGGU WAS DESIGNED IN CA BY JOAN & EMILY (Joan is Emily's mom)

We both saw the need for a better reusable bag, so we decided to make one.

After dozens of prototypes, we came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags

stylish, practical and easy.

We wanted to design a reusable bag that would function for both of us.

Em lives in the city, where she shops on foot. She needs to have a bag or two that fold up small so she always has them in her purse ready for an unexpected errand.
Joan is a suburban "drives to the grocery store loads up her car" grocery shopper. Our shared interest is in making something useful, that is well thought out, and also fun & stylish.

We use lightweight, hard working fabrics to make bags that will perform years of service in all of our daily toting tasks...

All the tons of things we find ourselves accepting a disposable bag to bring home.
Changing our own shopping habits is one small thing we can do to make a difference.

We hope you feel good every time you use your BAGGU.

PLASTIC BAGS & THE PLANET

The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year.

Most of those bags end up in land fills.

That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year.
In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose.

Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife.
Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something Good.
