This is what happens from now being Sharon In a Honda! I can't recall getting shocked like this in my old or new Volvo! So, I went Googling to find out how to STOP these shocking occurances & now have a list of tips to go by - next time the temp's drop & the humidity too, I'll be armed with these...
TIPS (I've found so far) for Avoiding Static Shocks in Automobiles:
1) Hold key to metal in bare hand or use your knuckles or your knee to touch the car metal (less senstive than fingertips) or someone also wore a ring made of steel on their finger to touch first (do I hear a Superman song coming on?)
2) Use static spray on the cloth seats & the carpet (some say no need in leather seats)
3) Get plastic/rubber floor mats or wear wool clothes or no clothes (again, let's get real?!)
4) Hold onto glass of window or metal frame on door or outside roof before stepping out of car
5) Buy anti-static wrist band (these looked way too laboratory job related to me) or a fancy little (out of stock) discharge keychain (or maybe you can still find them in Japan!)
6) Leather soles, anti-static shoes (back to the lab rat look) or bare feet (in the winter?!)
7) Have ground strap installed on back bumper or under vehicle (not a cheap idea) or just hang a strip of rubber off the chassis (cheapest)
8) Install an air filter/air ionizing unit (an even less cheap idea)
